This petition argues to make Pet Theft a specific crime with stronger deterrents.Anyone who knows the heartache of losing a dog , whether to old age, disease, accident or theft, knows that this is not a 'petty' crime. Dogs are an integral part of a family - sometimes for single people, their only family. Dog theft is kidnapping with no prospect of return. It would be utterly devastating to experience such a thing.Yet dog thefts continue to be on the increase in the UK. The previous government had promised to change the law, following an original petition. However there is now a new government and the petition needs renewing to gain enough signatures to force the issue to come before Parliament again.
